New Jobs

Think of offshore energy development as a massive construction project — requiring hundreds of thousands of American workers, and producing billions in new tax revenue for America, and your state and local governments.

The oil and natural gas industry already supports more than 9.2 million American jobs — and a Gallup Poll last year found that energy-producing states are among the best in job creation.

By opening up our domestic offshore oil and gas resources for leasing and development, our policymakers would be opening the door to even more American jobs – jobs that will live inside of states and localities where economic recovery is actually realized.

  • An estimated 690,000 jobs could be created by 2030 by allowing access to oil and natural gas resources currently off-limits.   Job growth would begin almost immediately when access is granted.
  • Oil and natural gas industry salaries in the exploration and production sectors are more than double the national average for all U.S. jobs.
  • An estimated 7.1 million jobs are supported by the purchase of goods and services to support energy exploration — including equipment suppliers, construction companies, management specialists and even food service businesses.
  • Local employment  would benefit  with the addition industry jobs, construction jobs, small business growth as well as service and support positions.
  • Cities and states will have more income— the money they need to support local and state police and fire departments, schools and critical infrastructure projects.
  • A reliable source of energy that benefits farmers, truckers, and businesses, large and small.

American policymakers seeking a jobs solution should look no further than increasing access to offshore energy resources.
