Max Baucus

Max Baucus

“Folks in Montana and across the country are feeling the energy pinch – whether it’s at the gas pump or in their energy bills at home.  It’s time that Congress does something to help.”  (Office of Senator Max Baucus - Press Release 9/12/08)

Senator Max Baucus has dedicated his life to serving the people of Montana. Born and raised in the Big Sky State, Max continually strives to make our state a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

After graduating from Stanford Law School, Max opened a law practice in Missoula in 1971. He then served as both Executive Director and Committee Coordinator for Montana's 1972 Constitutional Convention, which crafted what was considered one of the most farsighted state constitutions in the nation.

In 1973, Max was elected to the Montana State Legislature. He served as a state representative from Missoula until his election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1974. He was re-elected in 1976. Max was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1978 and has served consecutively ever since.

Jon Tester

Jon Tester

“We need to take effective action on this nation’s energy crisis right away.  Specifically, we need to drill more in places where it makes sense like the Bakken Field… and invest now in alternative energy and conservation for the long haul.”  (Office of Senator Jon Tester - Tester Energy Plan)

Tester and his wife Sharla farm the same land his grandparents homesteaded nearly 100 years ago. He was elected to the U.S. Senate on Nov. 7, 2006, after a long history of public service in the Big Sky State. Tester served as chair of the Big Sandy School Board and on his local Soil Conservation Service Committee before running for the Montana Senate in 1997.  Tester served two four-year terms in the Montana Legislature. In 2005, he was chosen to serve as the President of the Montana Senate.

Tester was born in Havre, Montana, on August 21, 1956. He graduated from the College of Great Falls in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Music. In addition to farming and running a custom butcher shop, Tester also worked as a music teacher for Big Sandy Public Schools.
