The Keystone XL Pipeline could increase America's energy and economic security if approved by the State Department. Hundreds Elected Officials agree and have asked the State Department to expeditiously approve this pipeline to move our nation's economy forward.
The proposed Keystone XL Pipeline consists of a 1,700-mile crude oil pipeline and related facilities that would bring more than 700,000 barrels of oil from Canadian and oil from the Dakotas, Montana, and Oklahoma to refineries along the Texas Gulf Coast. Since the pipeline would cross the Canadian border, the State Department must approve the application.
Over the past three (3) years, the State Department has conducted extensive analyses, including three (3) environmental reviews and an economic study. The environmental reviews covered a number of areas, including oil spill prevention, potential impact to the aquifer, route alternatives, and GHG emissions. No major issues were raised to prohibit the approval of the project.
Keystone XL can bring immediate and long-term economic relief to the nation by generating much-needed jobs and revenue. Upon approval, the pipeline would generate 20,000 manufacturing and construction jobs. In the longer-term, the pipeline would generate thousands of new jobs to operate and maintain the pipeline and refine the oil -- which will in turn, induce more jobs to supply these operations with equipment, supplies and services.
Our nation will also gain increased energy security by obtaining our energy from a steady, reliable source that shares our nation's interest - a country that is already our number one importer of oil to the United States.
